Kingston’s DataTraveler 2000 is designed to be secure, with an alphanumeric keypad that locks the drive with a word or number combination, for easy-to-use PIN protection. Its auto-lock feature is activated when the drive is removed from a device, and it deletes the encryption key after 10 failed intrusion attempts. DT2000 features hardware-based, full-disk AES 256-bit data encryption in XTS mode. Encryption is performed on the drive, not on the host computer, and no trace of the PIN is left on the system. DataTraveler 2000 is OS independent and can be used on any device with a USB 2.0 or USB 3.1 Gen1 (USB 3.0) port. It’s compatible with Windows, Mac OS, Linux, Chrome OS, Android (used in nearly half of the shipments of devices in today’s market), thin clients and embedded systems, and the drive requires no software or drivers. It’s FIPS 140-2 level 3 certified, to meet a frequently requested corporate IT requirement, and its durable design protects the drive from everyday elements such as water and dust.

I thought I would update my original review, still five stars…still works flawlessly. I have used it on these systems, Debian and Debian (beta), Kicksecure, Qubes, Whonix, tails, Graphene OS,(Android) Volla 22 phone. I partitioned the drive into several smaller encrypted drives without issue, deleted them resized them, again no issues, However, what I am not a fan of, is the really bright LED’s when its operating. I don’t use Apple or Windows, just Linux, and this USB memory stick just works as it should, without regard for the host OS.
I use this as my daily driver for passwords etc, the administrator and user passwords are both enabled, it is used exclusively on Linux, (Fedora) without any problems. I have re set, and re configured, into four partitions. One in Fat32, and the other three into encrypted LUKS partitions. Once the alphanumeric pin has been entered correctly it behaves just like any other USB memory stick. I re configured it using Linux as a test, as its information paperwork stated you needed a Windows or a Mac computer to re format the drive when re setting it, obviously as I own neither I needed to see if this USB stick was usable for me. I was pleased when I could format it without problems using Linux. I am confident that my data is fairly safe behind a ten attempt only alphanumeric pin (16 digits long) and then and encrypted partition. It remains to be seen how long the battery lasts.
